Tasting notes
The 2019 Vosne-Romanée La Colombière has a slightly gawky nose at the moment, the stems just jutting out a bit, but I appreciate the attractive brambly red cherry and strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, with powdery, pliant tannins, modest density and a prickle of white pepper on the understated, slightly uncompromising finish. This far surpasses my expectations—not to be underestimated! Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée La Colombière is showing just as well in bottle as it did in barrel. Mingling aromas of raspberries and cherries with hints of rose petals, sweet spices, raw cocoa, loamy soil and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with succulent acids and a sensual, seamless profile. Concluding with a long, expansive finish, this is worth a special effort to seek out.
Cask sample. Lively crimson. There's a hint of a little interesting earthiness underneath here. Some sweet richness and the merest hint of spice. This should age well. (JR)
