Tasting notes
Nicolas Potel sources from just over a tenth of a hectare of Echézeaux, with 40-year-old vines. The resulting wine is scented, a pot-pourri of florals and spice (white pepper and cloves), but beneath lies an immense structure. The tannins are firm but ripe, needing time to meld with the concentrated core of sweet fruit. A wave of crunchy red fruit brings vibrancy to the finish.

Cask sample. Dark crimson. Excellent transparency and energy on the nose. Lots of juicy but savoury fruit with real integrity. Oddly approachable. I could actually imagine drinking a glass of this in a wine bar this evening! It may close up but for the moment, it’s a charmer. (JR)
About the producer

Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
