Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a complex, generous, inviting bouquet with wild strawberry, raspberry, undergrowth and wonderful mineralité . These are aromatics with real class and poise. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit, white pepper and a very sapid middle and finish. Relatively grippy, structured and displaying density on the finish, this is another Gevrey that demands bottle age. But there is so much promise here, a standout wine from Magnien. Chapeau! Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Pale to mid crimson. Round fruit almost trumps the tannin in this wine and there's come perceptible energy. But there's still very slightly too much bitterness on the end. (JR)
Perfumed and ethereal, the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St Jacques wafts from the glass with aromas of dark berries, orange rind, peonies and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with melting tannins, lively acids and a long, mineral finish, it's a fine success.
