The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has one of the most mineral/terroir-driven aromatics from Sauzet, tensile with flint and gravelly scents. The palate is well balanced with a touch of reduction on the entry, good weight and acidity. Sapid, concentrated, there is a lovely stem ginger element on the finish that lingers. Lots of potential but this will need time.

Pale lemon colour, the nose shows a good balance of ripe fruit with some intensity, then an explosion on the palate, predominantly white fruit, ripe apple and fresher pears, but with a couple of bacon aromatics as well. A slight reductive note too. Very complex, excellent volume, quite delicious. Very long finish. Though this is an early site it seems to be suited by the vintage. Tasted: October 2021
