Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air 1er Cru has yet another appealing nose. It's quite an intense mixture of red and black fruit, iris and violet flowers. Neatly integrated new oak imparts a discreet modern sheen. The palate is smooth and silky with plush red fruit, vanilla and orange pith. This is a Gevrey that is predesigned to seduce and slips down the throat with ease. That said, it just needs a little more grip and "grunt", so this one may well drink best in its youth. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Bel Air 1er Cru has a slightly more savory bouquet with white pepper and clove aromas, fine mineralité and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with a little reduction on the entry, quite gourmand in style, fleshy and ripe towards the finish with touches of white pepper and Earl Grey. Maybe the La Riotte has a little more persistence?
