Score 93-95/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Apr 2022

A restrained, pure and strikingly elegant nose combines notes of wonderfully spicy aromas of violet, lavender, rose petal, black cherry and exotic Asian-style tea. There is outstanding volume to the velvety and seductively textured larger-scaled flavors that possess excellent richness yet fine detail on the hugely long bitter pit fruit and mineral-suffused finale where touches of austerity and warmth appear. Patience strongly advised.

The 2020 Musigny Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and like the Chambertin, you might infer that there are some stems in the blend due to its subtle pepperiness and tertiary notes that combine beautifully with the perfumed black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit framed by quite fine tannins. Good length and depth, closing in a little towards the finish. Give this Musigny several years, preferably a decade in bottle.
