Tasting Notes
Charles van Canneyt has 0.5 hectares of this Premier Cru, sandwiched between Clos de la Perrière and Le Clos Blanc. It’s one to watch – and a site that Charles thinks is benefiting from global warming, thanks to its limestone soils. The nose is dark and moody, yet with lifted fruit. Spice and perfume entice, while the palate is layered with crunchy fruit and fine yet firm, powdered tannins. There’s a delicious saline bite, with a raspberry and sour cherry twist on the finish that keeps you yearning for more.

The 2020 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeot 1er Cru has quite an intense, quite primal bouquet with black cherries, wild strawberry and touches of violet, quite strict at first but opening nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very harmonious with a silky, caressing finish. What a lovely Vougeot.
Black purple. The bouquet comes over as very lively after the more brooding Nuits-St-Georges. Les Petits Vougeots offers a brilliant backbone of intense fresh red fruit, more raspberry but with a little touch of cherry too, very balanced behind, few tannins, very long.
