Tasting Notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a well-defined nose with beautiful red berry fruit, briar, hints of crushed stone and orange pith. This blossoms in the glass. The palate has exquisite balance, real depth and a gentle grip. There is a wonderful symmetry about this Clos Saint-Jacques, and there is a surfeit of mineralité towards the finish, the sapidity beckoning another sip. Outstanding. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Not the deepest colour, and the bouquet shows a light breadstick volatility. A slightly shaky start but I like the way the intensity of the fruit builds further back on the palate. Some dark cherries in the mix, good persistence. A little low key alongside its peers but with fine style.
Aromas of dark berries, cherries, plums, burning embers, loamy soil and black truffles, framed by a patina of toasty new oak, introduce Rousseau's 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a full-bodied, deep and layered wine with a velvety attack that segues into a concentrated, tightly wound core, concluding with a long, penetrating finish. This is a serious Clos Saint-Jacques that's built for the long haul.
