Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru has another intense, uninhibited bouquet with lush red cherries, kirsch and clementine scents. There's just a bit of VA, and while others noted Brettanomyces, it might have been under my threshold. It just fades a tad in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins. At the moment, it's a bit of a "tough" Gevrey, bordering on Morey-like in terms of structure and then drier towards the finish. This does not correlate to the impressive showing from barrel. I would like to retaste this. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Notably dark. Black pepper on the nose! Rich and opulent with the sweet fruit trumping the structure. Quite distinctive and going all out for the pleasure/impressive quotient rather than subtlety. (JR)
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes 1er Cru has another quite intense bouquet with one of the best delineations among Arlaud’s Premier Crus: cranberry, red cherries and touch of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a fine layer of new oak neatly enmeshed with a controlled yet persistent finish. Excellent.
