Score 92/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Aug 2011

Produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon coming from a single vineyard planted in 1982, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was matured in 50% new French barriques. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it gives pronounced notes of warm black currant, mulberries and cloves over cedar, nutmeg, tree bark and vanilla pod. Medium bodied, the palate is generously fruited with medium-high acid and firm, chewy tannins, finishing long and spicy. Approachable now, it should evolve over the next 4-6 years and drink to 2020. Although Umamu Estate is a relatively new venture initiated in 2005, the vineyards are well established, dating back to 1978. These early efforts are very good and suggest a lot of potential.
