Tasting notes
Coming from a larger vineyard just south of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, the 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a bigger, richer wine yet shows a similarly broad, sexy style, especially when compared to the 2018. Ripe red and black fruits, some chocolaty oak, notes of spice and dried herbs, medium to full body, and velvety tannins all make for a captivating 2019. It's already hard to resist yet should easily evolve for 15-20 years given its concentration and balance.

Mazoyères makes up about half. Cask sample. It’s unusual to be tasting a grand cru as the second wine in a line-up ... Heady and intense. Sweet and concentrated. The acidity and the fruit are far from harmonised. Not exactly charming but certainly dramatic. (JR)
