Tasting notes
With no single vineyards produced in 2018, the straight Barbaresco is Produttori's top cuvée of the vintage. The 2018 Barbaresco from Produttori is ruby red and offers a pristine nose with red cherry, cloves, blood orange, earthy terracotta and dried herbs – delivering classic Barbaresco elegance that combines delicate floral aromatics with deeper, earthier tones and superb fruit purity. On the palate, chewy and crunchy red fruit pairs with citric acidity surrounded by creamy, sweet tannins and layers of complexity through rosehip and bergamot tea flavours. With air, the finish becomes more pronounced with sweet red liquorice lingering on the palate. While certainly a lighter style at this stage, with sinewy structure and a graceful, light body, this promises to take on more fat with some time in bottle as there is plenty of depth and concentration, stunning complexity and excellent freshness.

No crus were produced in 2018. The 2018 Barbaresco is aromatically expressive, with a perfumed and mineral character, with rocky earth. It has medium body, good concentration, and plenty of fruit and mineral earth that drive through the finish. An outstanding value, drink 2025-2045. As one of the most important and quality-minded co-operatives in the world, Produttori del Barbaresco is currently composed of 51 growers across Barbaresco. Founded in 1894 by Domizio Cavazza, the headmaster of the Royal Enological School of Alba, it was originally a collection of nine growers. Today the operations are managed by Aldo Vacca, who was formerly the assistant to Angelo Gaja for 15 years.
Mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet, open-knit red fruit on the nose with hints of crushed shells. Succulent cherry fruit. Great purity of tangy cherry fruit on the palate and succulent acidity. Quite immediate, fresh and long. (WS)
Lovely barbaresco, with all the typical nebbiolo characteristics, such as red berries, mushrooms and dried leaves, as well as hints of bitter orange peel and spice. All this follows through to the medium-to full-bodied palate, where fine, lightly firm tannins add a little grip and additional focus. Compact, but bursting with flavor. Delicious now, but give it a year or two. It will only get better.
