Tasting notes
Healthy medium red. Slightly stunted but pure aromas of red berries and black cherry are less exuberant than those of the Champeaux. Also more restrained and tightly wound in the mouth, but with vibrant acidity and a sensation of peppery grip giving the wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Classic 2013 in its tautness and cut. Finishes ripely tannic and long; this should be a beauty with mid-term cellaring.

Quite leafy, autumn-fruited nose. Typically pale, light style but without the scintillating fruit brightness it needs to complete the picture. (AH)
Bright, dark red. Ethereal high-pitched aromas of pomegranate, raspberry, crushed rock, rose petal and licorice. Dense, sappy and very concentrated, with a mid-palate thickness leavened by outstanding energy. Offers noteworthy finesse to its sappy flavors of red berries, minerals and flowers. This extremely primary wine delivers an uncanny combination of plush, fine-grained texture and finishing spine and lift. The crop level here was about 28 hectoliters per hectare, according to Fourrier.
The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines appears slightly deeper in color than the other premier crus at this early stage. The nose is extremely well defined with blackberry, briary and limestone scents that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, supple tannins: red cherries, wild strawberry and a touch of iodine on the aftertaste. This is in touch with the Clos Saint Jacques '13 at this stage, so it will be interesting to compare once in bottle.
