Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2022-2040, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru offers lilting aromas of apple blossom, granite and citrus peel on the nose, nicely focused and very pure in style. The palate is fresh and concentrated with zippy acidity, very very cohesive and concentrated though without the richness and decadence of say, the Hameau de Blagny. There is more Puligny DNA here and good potential for aging.

A broad-ranging nose freely offers up its array of petrol, soft wood, acacia, lemon rind, spice and a whiff of tea. There is, yet again, first-rate punch to the rich and precise medium-bodied flavors that display focused power on the sappy, compact, serious and youthfully austere finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. Lovely. Barrel Sample: 91-94
