Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes from Domaine Naudin-Ferrand has a very concentrated, upfront, modern style bouquet that is in total contrast to Domaine de la Vougeraie's Damodes. Quite dense black fruit with confit like, dried prune tinged aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with dense, thick tannins. There is clearly a lot of extraction here, but at the expense of finesse and delineation on the finish. Muscular and masculine, perhaps afford this two or three years in the cellar and see if it mellows?
