Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2021-2032, Neal Martin, Jan 2020

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe de Dessus is now a separate blend. It has a lovely, pure bouquet of red cherry, blueberry and light iodine/marine scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, good cohesion and a nicely structured finish. It should drink well for a decade or more.

In the north of the appellation. 20% whole bunch, 20% new oak. Barrel sample. Much darker in colour and darker/riper in fruit character with some blackberry sweetness on the mid palate. Much riper on the palate too, but no lack of freshness thanks to the fine-grained tannins and the whole-bunch component. Ripe but not overripe. Firm, dry chalky tannins. Very moreish. (JH)
