Tasting notes
Viña Cobos is Paul Hobbs’ Mendoza project – and his winemaking talents shine through in the wines. Felino is the entry-level Malbec, yet given its pedigree, is also one of the best-value Malbecs on the market. Tight at first, this needs air to open up. Give it a little time, however, and this reveals its pretty, precise and pure nose that speaks of these high-altitude vineyards. Crystalline blueberry and boysenberry fruit is complemented by dainty florals and a herbal freshness. The palate follows with darker, richer fruit, yet plenty of crunchy acidity and velveteen tannins. This is brilliant value for the price.

Plenty of blue fruit and violets with some black licorice and hints of asphalt. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and linear, firm tannins that frame the wine. Very fine texture. Real. Drink now or hold.
