The 2020 Les Pensées de Lafleur is a wine that I rated very highly at the blind Southwold tasting—but on this bottle, perhaps in juxtaposition with the 2019, there is a patina of over-ripeness on the nose. The palate nevertheless delivers the goods with ripe black cherries, dark chocolate and a deft sprinkle of spice. This coheres marvellously in the glass with gentle grip. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria.

Tasted blind. Very dark crimson. Ripe black fruit, a deep leafy note without being green. Chewy yet refined tannins. All in place, all harmonious. Beautifully balanced. (JH)

The 2020 Pensées de Lafleur is another impressive Pomerol, albeit more closed and introspective than the Trotanoy. It opens with aeration to reveal black fruit, marmalade and irony scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded texture that is quite plum and concentrated. The acidity maintains tension right toward the finish, fanning out in an almost decadent fashion. This is a very seductive and stupendous Deuxième Vin (even though it's not really a Deuxième Vin ). Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
