Tasting Notes

Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Aug 2022

E Virtus is a blend of Syrah and old-vine Carignan from biodynamically farmed vineyards on the lower slopes of the Montagne Noire in the Minervois appellation. Raised in oak and then in bottle for seven years prior to release, the long élevage has given the wine fantastic texture. It has lovely woodsmoke on the nose, with vanilla and dark chocolate aromas from the high-quality oak. This is matched by more earthy, bloody tones and violet florals. The wine has plenty of texture, with very supple, layered tannins that are beautifully integrated. On the palate there is freshly squeezed berry fruit, with a touch of menthol and liquorice on the finish. This wine would pair brilliantly with barbecued meats and – as noted on the bottle – this is a wine for drinking with smoke and fire. It has great length and intensity; it’s outstanding quality for the money.
