The 2012 Echézeaux "La Grande Complication" Grand Cru comes from a special selection of old vines located in Les Treux and always includes 100% whole bunch fruit, and this was the first time that I had ever tasted it. It has a very intense, earthy bouquet mixed with black truffle and bay leaf aromas, perhaps a little more opaque than the regular bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with Morello cherry, wild strawberry, sea salt, brine and a touch of spice. Introspective at the moment, there is nevertheless impressive complexity here with a very long finish, though I would like more personality to come through.
