2019 Saint Aubin Le Banc

Tasting notes
The 2019 Saint-Aubin Le Banc is very promising, delivering aromas of pear, orange oil, white flowers and wheat toast. Medium-bodied, bright and incisive, it's racy and precise, with fine depth at the core. Racked to tank not long before my visit for bottling early in the new year, I suspect it will fill out a little as it finishes its élevage. This is one of the easier-to-find wines in the range, and it represents a fine introduction to the house style—and the racy wines of Saint-Aubin.

Lieu-dit in which he owns three parcels. A terroir he’s known for 25 years and one that now produces fully ripe wines. 13.5% potential alcohol in 2019! There is lots of Pinot here. Near the Roux establishment. Faces directly south on quite a slope but fairly late ripening. Tank sample. That combination of spice and tension again (after the Hautes-Côtes). Broad and appealing with a bit of pear fruit and lots of energy. This seems as though it may be broachable reasonably early. (JR)
