The 2020 Doisy-Daëne has a tightly coiled but complex bouquet, with touches of melted candle wax infusing the honeyed fruit. There is just a hint of oak to be absorbed. The palate is well balanced, with a harmonious, viscous opening, a silver bead of acidity and well-integrated wood. The pedigree of this Sauternes comes through on the finish. Excellent, but it needs time. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
The 2020 Doisy-Daëne has a wonderful bouquet with wild honey, saffron, white chocolate and quince, very focused and has one of the most intense noses you will find in this vintage. The palate is exquisite in terms of balance; a razor-sharp line of acidity effortlessly slices through the layered botrytized fruit. This is a magnificent Barsac.
Stands out in the vintage, with clear breadth and weight through the mid palate, delivering up marmalade, bitter orange and mandarin zest, well balanced sweetness and acidity, with cut glass precision and slate texture. 16hl/ha yield, with almost equal amounts of time in barrel and stainless steel vat for ageing.
About the producer
This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
