The 2020 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is gracious and light on its feet. Scents of tangerine peel, mint, lemon confit, marzipan, jasmine and passionfruit are all beautifully lifted. Weightless and elegant, L'Extravagant is wonderfully subdued in 2020.

The 2020 L'Extravagant reveals a pale lemon-gold color, exploding from the glass with atomic scents of key lime pie, pineapple upside-down cake and persimmon butter, plus hints of cinnamon stick, powdered ginger, honeysuckle and beeswax and a touch of musk perfume. The palate bursts with a firework display of candied citrus peel and tropical fruit flavors, giving way to tons of spicy sparks and an invigorating backbone of freshness, finishing with epic length and polish. Wow, that is good.
The 2020 L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne has a very well-defined nose, one that is perhaps more restrained than other vintages at this stage. But it is wondrously pure, offering detailed yellow plum, quince and white flower scents. The palate, however, is where all the action is. It delivers a payload of honeyed fruit mixed with quince, peach and a touch of crème caramel . Displaying fabulous length and precision, this is a stunning Barsac.

About the producer
This Second Growth estate has origins dating back to the late 1800s. It is, however, under the ownership of the Dubourdieu family – who took over the Barsac property in 1924 – that Ch. Doisy-Daëne truly flourished.
