Tasting notes
Sensual, round and inviting, Rosso's 2011 Barolo Vigna Rionda captures the full pedigree of this great Serralunga site. An open-knit, expressive bouquet open up effortlessly in the glass. The flavors are bright and precise throughout. Succulent red cherries, mint, rose petal and spice abound as the 2011 shows off its understated personality. The warm vintage has given the Rionda an extra bit of early approachability that only helps show just how compelling wines from this site can be. Barolo and Vigna Rionda fans will flip over the 2011, but the best is most likely still in the future as Davide Rosso gets a handle on the site.

Cask sample but already sold out en primeur. Savoury and minerally and with hints of sweet fruit. Hints of dried fruit on the palate and fresh juicy cherry notes on the finish. Amazing lightness and suppleness and yet very powerful at the same time. Simply gorgeous. (WS)
