Tasting Notes
The Seleccion Pinot Noir is distinctly more serious in its flavour profile compared to the Vinedos, with more savoury, earthy flavours to complement the fruitier tones. The 15% whole-bunch used in fermentation adds herbal complexity that integrates with the more lifted rose petal, pot-pourri notes. The floral aromatics are pronounced and quite heady. On the palate there is great fruit clarity with textural tannins and an almost viscous-like concentration. This is fuller-bodied Pinot Noir – powerful while still silky and perfumed.
Like the 2019 Selección de Parcelas Chardonnay, the 2019 Pinot Noir has handled the warmer vintage conditions much better, but the warmth of the vintage shines through in the sweet, candy-like blackberry fruit. This is more New World in style – full-bodied, rich, ripe and full of juicy fruit. The herbal tones from a proportion of whole-bunch comes through nicely on the finish, adding savoury complexity.

The 2019 Pinot Noir Baettig Selección de Parcelas Los Primos comes from Malleco, Traiguen, and was aged for 15 months in 20% new French barrels. This is a textbook Pinot Noir. Cherry-red with a nose of allspice, blood and damp earth; enticing mushroomy notes appear after a while. The palate is compact with very fine-grained, polished tannins and a freshness that brings tension and energy, while the finish lingers at length.
Ripe and intense pinot with crushed strawberries, blackberries, crushed stones and minerals. Full-bodied and creamy with round, fine tannins that are polished and provide a rather voluptuous texture. Drinkable now, but better after 2022.
Plumper and a little plusher than the 2018 release, although everything is relative in the cool climate region of Traiguenm this is the best Pinot Noir yet from Pancho Baettig. Made with three clones – 777, 828 and a Gevrey-Chambertin selection – this is particularly impressive for a wine from a vineyard that’s only eight years old. Spicy, dense and compact, with 15% whole bunches, stylish oak, plum and black cherry fruit and some volcanic grip. 2022-28
