The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru is more reticent on the nose compared to Bichot's Les Chabiots, but it is similarly well defined and poised, offering blackberry, raspberry and incense aromas that gain momentum in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine depth and salinity. This Chambolle has impressive cohesion, gradually building in intensity toward a vibrant, persistent finish. Superb. The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Borniques 1er Cru is the first release from the domaine . It was typically blended into the Vieilles Vignes until a client recommended that it be bottled separately. There are just two barrels, both one year old. It has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, licorice and peony aromas that show a little more refinement than the Les Cras. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a fine bead of acidity and a satisfying sense of symmetry all the way through to the tensile finish. I am certainly pleased that this cru is been separated, because it is superb.
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Bourniques offers up a lavish bouquet of cherries, blackberries, licorice, violets and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and ample, with a pure and gourmand core of fruit, framed by velvety tannins.
