From a very steep and hot part of the cru, on shallow slate soils, the 2019 Enkircher Steffensberg Riesling Auslese Im Löwenbaum is very clear, intense and precise on the slatey and flinty nose that reveals piquant Auslese fruit. Sweet and juicy-piquant on the palate, this is a spicy, persistently salty and sensual Auslese with sassy attractive fruit and stimulating piquancy on the finish. A gorgeous wine with crystalline acidity and slate character. Fabulous. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

AP number 02 20. Less forward on the nose than the Ellergrub Auslese and a little less eloquent but I'm sure it will eventually provide charming drinking. (JR)
