The 2019 Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) opens with noble botrytis and orange or cumquat aromas on the concentrated yet clear, refined, flinty and finely spicy nose. Sweet and mouthfillingly round, this is a dense, noble and very juicy Auslese, but it needs a decade or so to gain more transparency, finesse and elegance. The finish is dense, spicy and firmly structured and indicates great potential. The gold capsuled Auslese is certainly richer and sweeter than the bright and buoyant standard Auslese, yet it still has to develop the fascinating weightlessness of AP #3. This AP #4 was bottled with 9% alcohol. Tasted from AP 04/20 in June 2020.

AP number 04 20. TA 10 g/l, RS 140 g/l. Pretty weighed down by fruit concentration on the nose. Very big and sweet and dramatic on the palate. Almost flashy! Tempting to drink it already but of course it needs to develop more perfume and subtlety. (JR)
