The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru is missing the cohesion on the nose of Comte Liger-Belair's Aux Cras. At this stage, it is tightly-wound and bashful, which is uncommon in this vintage—it feels a little stripped. The palate is medium-bodied, pliant and attractive in terms of its satin texture, but misses some depth and complexity on the finish. I come away feeling as if I am not experiencing the complete wine. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru includes one-quarter whole bunch this year. It has a well-defined bouquet of more black than red fruit, plus touches of white pepper and crushed limestone. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, cohesive and silky-smooth. Again, a little more grip would be nice, although it has plenty of charm. Drink after 3–4 years in bottle.
About the producer
Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
