Tasting notes
The 2006 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese displays peachy, honeyed aromas with musky, exotic overtones. In the mouth not only honey and peach but nut oils and vanilla lend this a riper, more bitter-sweet personality than the corresponding Juffer Spatlese. (The two are analytically virtually identical.) Here, too, is greater elegance and sense of delicacy, with a sappy intensity and quite hidden sweetness in the finish. Marcus Haag – whose wines often number among the best values in the Mosel – has followed up his unprecedented success in the 2005 vintage with a collection of 2006s again surpassing any of his career. Spicy, then excellent minerality, bags of power, richness and great follow through for a long finish. Much better balance than the Kabinett.
