Tasting notes
Opening in the glass with aromas of cassis, licorice, sweet spices, rose petals and rich soil tones, Leroux's 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Petit Maupertuis is medium to full-bodied, ample and muscular, with a layered core of fruit, ripe tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long finish. It is showing especially well.

The 2019 Clos Vougeot Les Petits Maupertui Grand Cru has a fragrant, floral bouquet of orange blossom and effervescent red fruit, the 75% whole bunch beautifully disguised. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and quite saline in the mouth, and a lively, animated finish that almost becomes volatile (but isn’t).
A parcel by the wall near Grands Échezeaux . Two-thirds whole bunch. 1.5 barrels. Barrel sample, never racked. Transparent crimson. Solid and savoury on the nose but very sweet and plush on the palate. Then a dry finish. Very promising but needs time. (JR)
