Score 93/100 · Drink 2023-2037, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Sep 2021

The 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus has turned out very well, unwinding in the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit, buttered citrus, white flowers, hazelnuts and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, layered and structured, with chalky extract and lively acids, it concludes with a mint-inflected finish.

The 2019 Meursault Les Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru is quite rich and honeyed on the nose, offering touches of mango, white peach and even a hint of gingerbread with aeration. The palate is honeyed in texture with slightly lower acidity than other crus, yet it is well balanced, leading into a heady but engaging finish.

2018 was the first vintage. 0.2 ha, near the little cabotte of Perrières. An old division of Matrot. Four barrels. Vines are 32 years old. Tank sample. Broad, green-fruit sensation with a hint of yeasty ginger beer. Almonds too. Very interesting. Rich and racy. Lovely balance with a chalky finish. Very approachable already! (JR)
