Score 95/100 · Drink 2024-2040, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Aug 2022

The 2019 Les Poyeux is a soft, fondant-like textured Cabernet Franc, which caresses your palate quietly with its round edges. It's a very young and balanced style but has no sense of heaviness despite the depth of fruit within its core. This is not a wine that is about primary fruit, it's about texture. The tannins coat the palate generously with a rich granular texture - a long maceration on skins post-fermentation gives a tea leaf character, a hint of early grey floral character and black cherry fruit. A complex, long and young wine. It's a welcome conclusion to form after concerns about brett in the 2018.
