Score 91/100 · Drink 2027-2048, Neal Martin, Dec 2023

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet of plump red fruit, hints of white pepper and Provençal herbs with, again, some assiduous use of whole bunch and new oak evident here. The palate is medium-bodied with a sharp, feisty entry. This involving Chambolle shows lively red fruit, spicier in style, with plenty of depth toward the finish, and yet it seems to fray at the seams in the glass, prompting me to lower my assessment. Plus, there's nagging lack of persistence on the aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Matured in 25% new oak and 90% whole bunches, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is the most opulent of Groffier’s 2019s with kirsch and orange zest infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a little oak to be subsumed on the entry. Good weight, quite muscular for a Chambolle with liberally sprinkled black pepper enhancing the finish. A little stocky, bottle age will smooth any jagged corners.
