Score 92/100 · Drink 2018-2030, Neal Martin, May 2019

The 2003 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux has a fragrant bouquet with vivid red berry fruit and a clear mineral drive that is remarkable given that the summer was so hot and dry. The palate is concentrated yet sorbet-fresh, almost Perrot-Minot in style. Threaded amongst the black cherry and cassis fruit are orange rind, quite zesty and full of vim and vigour with persistent length. An outstanding effort considering this is a 2003. Tasted blind at Philippe's Xmas lunch.

Medium red-ruby. Fruit-driven black cherry nose. Sweet, dense and pliant, with low acidity; like the Bourgogne, this has almost California-like fruit but in a fresh way. Finishes powerful and long, with very suave, ripe tannins. "Drink this right away for the pleasure of its fruit," suggests Bachelet.
