Leading off the 2019s, these are decidedly more fruit-driven and supple than the more structured 2018s. The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux is broader and more open than the 2018, with beautiful red and black fruits as well as leafy herb and forest, earthy nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it brings terrific ripeness and purity, sweet tannins, and just a satisfying, sexy, straight-up gorgeous wine. It certainly competes with the Grand Crus. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years or more.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with cranberry, wild strawberry and light tobacco scents. There is a slightly melted quality to this Champeaux that is attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth entry, very pliant tannins, red fruit mixed with allspice and clove, a hint of white pepper towards the finish. There is a lilting quality to this Champeaux, though it needs 3-5 years to absorb the oak.

0.47 ha. His own vines since 2012. Cask sample. Deep rich spicy and dark. Exotic and rich. Very showy with just enough acidity. Of a certain style … very far from transparent! (JR)
