Tasting notes
Our pick of his wines in 2019 was the Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. A wine with great dynamics and true typicity of this legendary Grand Cru, it finely balances power and elegance. Dark berry fruits are interlaced with sweet vanilla and smoky charred embers, no doubt from the new oak, that for the moment prevails over the compact concentration of fruit that lurks beneath. The palate is defined by an exceptional level of detail, with incredibly fine tannin structure producing a wine of real depth and elegance. There is real dynamism in the palate too, an energy and a sort of focused power. The fruit is wonderfully ripe, sweet red cherry, blackberry fruit and some gummy blackberry – without veering to jammy or cooked fruit. The alcohol is well integrated, and the high-quality oak adds another layer of sweet spice to the complex palate. It finishes super fresh and sustained. Drink from 2030 onwards.
