Tasting notes
The intensely golden yellow-colored 2019 Schloss Johannisberg Silberlack Riesling Trocken GG is deep and intense on the concentrated and complex nose. Full-bodied, intense and saline on the palate yet also with fine oak tannins, this is a tight, intense and very promising Silberlack with a long, saline and structured finish. It's impressive. Natural cork. Tasted in Kiedrich, August 2025.

The Silberlack exhibits a delicate rather than exuberant fragrance in which aromas of citrus fruit and peach are accompanied by a subtle mineral expression. On the palate the wine has managed to retain enough acidity to support the refreshing expression of sweet lemon and grapefruit. A marked salty tang adds further vibrancy. Quite cool and understated which only serves to emphasise the wine’s elegance. (MS)
Quite an idiosyncratic style in terms of Rheingau Grosses Gewächs, placing the emphasis on a fresh, almost medicinal herbal expression on the nose. The palate shows good substance and some aromatic notes of stone fruit, but also a crunchy vegetal taste reminiscent of sorrel. Sound acidity makes for an invigorating finish. (MS)
Very complex, golden-mirabelle and licorice nose with a lot of flinty complexity. Stunning concentration for the sleek body, but this is still so tightly wound. Ravishing finish, in spite of its noble austerity. Enormous aging potential. Drink or hold.
