La Morra. Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Hints of sweetness, a bit like candyfloss, and malty notes. A nose that seems to signal development. Supple and round with a hint of dried fruit but more complex than that sounds and lots of grainy tannins. Pleasurable and ready now. (WS)

The 2015 Barolo Capalot Vecchie Viti shows good up-front richness and depth, with the characteristic dark red fruit and floral notes that are typical of this site. It would be nice to see a little more polish throughout, especially in the tannins.
La Morra. Bottled in August 2017. ‘We like to give it more bottle age so it is a little more ready when it comes onto the market.’ 30 days on the skins. Aged in large 30-hl Stockinger casks for 18 months and a year in bottle. ‘To show Capalot’s many sides it needs bottle age, which helps to show its complexity better on release.’ Inviting, lifted nose of sour cherry with a touch of oak. Soft strawberry and raspberry fruit. Soft and elegant on the palate with plenty of ripe grainy tannins and ripe acidity with strikes the right balance. Seems approachable, but really needs time to truly open up. (WS)
