A blend of Les Petits Monts and Les Chaumées, Felettig's 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru offers up a lovely bouquet of rose petals, smoked duck, sweet red fruits and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety, with succulent acids and a charming, expressive profile that suggests that this Vosne-Romanée will drink well with only minimal bottle age.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru comprises two-thirds Petit Monts and one-third Les Chaumes, matured entirely in new oak. I feel the wood slightly overwhelms the terroir of those two propitious vineyards. The palate is smooth and velvety with well-judged acidity, a creamy texture and a vanilla-infused finish. Let’s see if that wood is fully assimilated. I will remain cautious for now.
