Tasting notes
The 2019 Maté's Vineyard Chardonnay is straight out of the blocks with power and intensity. It is concentrated, with a scintillating score of gravelly phenolics that drag the fruit characters out over the palate. It veritably glitters with intense fruit, which is tropical without being mushy or sweet at all. The oak feels toasty, and the fruit and the acid are all in harmony. This is impressive plus.

Fragrant, even quite floral on the nose. Creamy, racy and opulent but with a bit more tension than the 2020 Maté’s, unexpectedly. Attractive dry finish. Very long. Quite complex. (JR)
The 2019 Chardonnay Maté's Vineyard is a complete wine, offering roundness, focus and a compact nature. The mid-weight palate has an essence that shows concentration. Excellent acidity provides freshness and vibrancy. The finish is long and smoky, with clove and grapefruit. Substance and sinew appear on the drawn-out finish.
Tightly coiled, this focused and athletic Chardonnay needs to be put away in a cool, dark cellar in the medium term to allow it to unwind. A little shy on the nose, presenting melon, beeswax and subtle oak-derived nutty characters, it has an excellent core of concentration. There is a fine, silken texture on the focused and layered midpalate. Produced from the Mendoza clone, which is prone to hens and chicks. Invigorating acidity provides momentum on the lengthy finish.
