The 2016 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett is very intense and ripe, partly overripe and caramelly on the nose, with burnt milk aromas at this stage. Stunningly pure and salty on the palate, with delicate acidity and lingering salinity, this is a deliciously fruity and sappy Kabinett that is a bit disrupted at the moment. Tasted March 2018.

Grapefruit and lime dominate on the nose and generously juicy, polished, buoyant palate. This represents (despite modest measurable acidity) a bright and northerly (as opposed to tropical) expression of Goldtröpfchen – and that characterization applies especially to a long-lingering, cooling, refreshing finish subtly underlain with wet stone and benefiting from a mouthwatering pinch of salt. On reflection, one recognizes that this wine is unapologetically sweet. But in the act of savoring it, somehow one doesn’t give that a thought.
Fumy, herbal aroma of spontaneous fermentation. Tight, lively and mouth-watering. Perfect harmony without a great deal of intensity but GV . (JH)
