Tasting notes
Lukas van Loggerenberg fermented this with ambient yeast and matured it in nine used French oak barrels. Unfined and unfiltered. Bright purplish crimson. Strongly aromatic and full of the pencil-shavings character of Touraine. Very firm acidity and pure juiciness. Not a trace of obvious oak. Bone-dry impression. Definitely needs food as this is the opposite of sweet and fleshy. Extremely appetising. Extremely pure. Impressively long. What a glamorous picnic it would be if you took this summery wine along. Cabernet Franc on granite in Polkedraai region (Lukas is a big Loire fan). 11 months in old French oak. Classically leafy Cab Franc nose. Lightly herbal and stemmy but rich in dark cassis and cassis leaf. Concentrated and still fresh. Juicy yet with good fruit depth. (JH)
