Tasting notes
The 2019 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur does not quite possess the complexity of the 2019 Capbern on the nose, more red fruit here, earthier in style. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite infused black fruit, moderate depth, a touch of abrasiveness towards the finish that should be abraded with time. There is something uncompromising here...but I like that. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Weak rim. Gentle nose and quite a sweet start. Dry finish. Easy to like, but with a little alcohol on the end. (JR)
A bottle of wine I'd happily drink, the 2019 Le Marquis De Calon Ségur sports a ruby/purple hue as well as classic Saint-Estèphe notes of red and black fruits, damp earth, leafy herbs, and even some spicy, floral nuances that I don't normally find in young Saint-Estèphe. Medium-bodied on the palate, it's nicely balanced, has well-integrated acidity and tannins, and outstanding length. It's a rock solid second wine with loads to love.
About the producer

Wedding gift lists traditionally include wine glasses or cutlery, but in 1718, Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour and president of the Bordeaux parliament, received a rather more impressive present: Château Calon.
