The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Village exhibits notions of pear, green apple and white flowers, followed by a medium-bodied, elegantly textural palate that's lively but open-knit. This is an immediate, front-loaded bottling from Fontaine-Gagnard that's adapted to near-term consumption.

After a run of Mâconnais wines, this seems richer and more creamy. Or is that just more oaky? A light smoky note. Creamy texture and juicy citrus fruit. More smokily reductive on the palate but not overdone. (JH)

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Village is the usual blend of six lieux-dits, the biggest cuvée of the domaine, and sees 20% new oak. It has quite a concentrated bouquet of dried honey, beeswax and pressed flowers, maybe just needing a little delineation. The palate is rounded and lightly honeyed in texture, a little low in acidity, and simple but fresh on the dainty finish.
