Tasting notes
The wine does not have the aromatic amplitude of the 2016 and is nuttier in its aromas, rather than perfumed, but the seemingly signature of Soldera – those tender tannins, like silk, bring so much energy and emotion and makes for a mesmerising wine. The wine has a lovely level of concentration of ripe black cherry fruit and is beautifully integrated with the vibrant acidity bringing wonderful breadth to the palate. Not the most ethereal vintage of Soldera but still superb.

The 2015 Toscana Sangiovese is a beautifully forward, luscious wine that shows so well today. Radiant and layered, with no hard edges, the 2015 is an absolute delight. The 2015 is part of the Soldera vintages that offer tremendous immediacy yet have the stuffing to age. It is perhaps a touch on the young side today, but who cares?
A hotter vintage than 2016 but overall a regularly timed growing season that produced more than 17,000 bottles. Very aromatic. Polished fruit, smooth tannins and then exceptionally persistent. Wonderfully transparent healthy juice with a hint of southern Tuscan dustiness on the finish. (JR)
Soldera’s 2015 Sangiovese is superb. The aromatics alone are pure seduction. Sweet floral notes, cedar, tobacco and a hint of spice open first. Deceptively medium in body, the 2015 is translucent and weightless, with plenty of acid and tannin that drive the mid-palate and a finish laced with all sorts of red-toned fruits. The 2015 can be enjoyed now, but I would cellar it for at least a few years. These wines have a way of transforming in the bottle over time. I imagine that will be the case here as well.
About the producer

Soldera is one of the most highly rated, fiercely collected wines of Italy. The winery is based in the Brunello di Montalcino, however the estate is no longer labelled as a Brunello, following a fall out with the consortium. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the wine is currently bottled as a Toscana IGT.
