The 2018 Saint-Aubin Le Banc wafts from the glass with scents of citrus oil, crisp Anjou pear, green apples and a touch of smoky reduction. Medium to full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated, it's ample and nicely concentrated, with tangy acids and a penetrating, saline finish. This has turned out very well indeed.

1.5 ha (3.7 acres) across three parcels in this lieu-dit, the extension of Les Castets. Very calcareous. Planted to red for a long time. Colin-Morey bought it in 1996 when he was working with his dad and replanted it 20 years ago. Even the village wines are on slopes in St-Aubin. Tank sample. Very slightly reductive giving a flinty note on the nose. Typical for St-Aubin in this vintage, and more generally, he notes. Sulphur-related compounds contribute to the aroma (but not SO2). On the palate, tight and juicy and generous in citrus but also that flinty note. There’s a depth and ripeness of citrus but also that lovely tension, rounded off with a gentle creaminess. (JH)
