Like so many young red burgundies, this seems remarkably unremarkable on the nose – red fruit, glossy, a touch of acetic, fresh-paint aroma. But then the palate shows much more of the terroir with darker bramble fruits and bitter chocolate. Needs at least a year to shake off its shyness. (RH)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers des Cras is a mélange of three Premier Crus: Cras, Les Murgers and Richemone. It has a precise, focused bouquet of brambly black fruit with light sous-bois elements emerging, followed later by powdered chalk. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, good weight and precision, a fine bead of acidity and a classy, minerally finish. Excellent.
