Aromas of citrus pith, white flowers and wet stones preface the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières, a medium- to full-bodied, satiny and racy wine with levels of density and tension that transcend expectations for the vintage. Long and saline, it's comparatively open at this early stage and is already youthfully approachable, even if it has plenty of stuffing to age.

The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has an exquisite bouquet with a very subtle reduction that does not disguise the precision and complexity. It blossoms with each swirl. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-chiseled with wonderful tension, quite saline with a persistent, precise finish that expresses this climat with style. This is an outstanding effort in a tricky vintage for the whites. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

Another beautiful wine, the 2018 Meursault Les Perrieres 1Er Cru offers more pear, honeyed orange, and lemon zest notes as well as a medium-bodied, nicely textured, weighty yet still bright and lively style on the palate. The oak is integrated, and it has juicy, clean acidity as well as terrific balance. As with most of these 2018 whites from Girardin, give it a year or two.

The 2018 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is a perplexing wine from one of the Côte de Beaune's most esteemed vineyards. The bouquet, like the palate, initially feels shrill and lacks cohesion. Lemon rind and smoke on the nose, but not much of Perrières mineralité . The palate is marked by sharp, slightly bitter acidity that comes across incongruous to the rest of the wine, although it does cohere and in fact, shows better the following day. However, it does lack breeding. - Neal Martin
