Tasting notes
Ripe apple, peach, and Persian melon dominate on the nose and the luscious, polished palate of this bottling based on fruits that registered 90 Oechsle. A brightly animating and refreshing measure of fresh lime reflects an astonishingly high total acidity of 10 grams, a tribute to some combination of vine genetics and vine age with site and viticultural regimen such as one seldom encounters from vintage 2018. And for all of this wine’s fruit intensity, marine minerals and wet stone are also present throughout, lending special appeal to the buoyant, bell-clear, tinglingly invigorating and mouthwateringly saline finish.

A more savoury aroma than any of the 2018 Kabinetts so far tasted, herbs and a touch of spice and a little smoky. More of the spontaneous ferment character on the palate, an earthy minerality that adds complexity to the tangy lemon fruit. Razor-sharp and already complex with a lot more to come. Mouth-watering intensity and VGV . (JH)
From ungrafted vines, the 2018 Enkircher Ellergrub Riesling Kabinett opens to a seriously deep, spicy, very fresh and mineral nose. The attack on the palate is racy-piquant, highly stimulating and mouthwatering, with white stone fruit flavors and lingering salinity. This is a concentrated, structured and salty-piquant Kabinett of great class and style. Fabulous! Tasted as a barrel sample in March 2019. To be bottled at the end of April this year.
